@moietmavieana Not that I know of. Though I think I've heard it mentioned somewhere once or twice (could have been the internet lol). Over here it's only called toe-loop, by virtually every judge, coach, and skater in the country (except for maybe some European skaters that have come here for competition or something like that).
-
@GoFigureSkate1 Yes Rittberger was the inventor. I also know another name was used for the flip, but the origins of the flip are not well known and that name is not used anymore. Can't remember the name now though. Concerning the toe-loop, we (in Europe) sometimes use the term cherry flip. It is obviously not a name, but I was wondering if you use it as well?
-
@moietmavieana Intersting! I assume Rittberger is the person who first did the jump? I never even knew it had another name, I've only heard it called loop here in the US. But it makes a lot of sense to call it by it's creator's name. I've heard that in rollerskating the toe loop is also referred to by the person's name (though I forget who).. I wonder why they aren't all named that way? It would be make more sense because they would be the same name in all languages and countries.

@GoFigureSkate1 2nd part of my comment. The theory was saying that flip means a simple turn in the english language... It just didn't mean anything to me,but maybe it could help others. Btw, where I live, the term Rittberger (with caps) is more used than loop. Just wanted to add a little info :). Have a good day!

@GoFigureSkate1 Ooops, my bad. I don't know why I didn't think of the flip and toe-loop. I posted this 2 years ago, so I kinda forgot. When I was reading your comment, I was thinking "What is he talking about?? Serving me a theory I learned as a kid!". Then I went back to my old comments and saw you were absolutely right to correct me. I never understood the flip theory either. I remember once reading it's called flip because it's a simple turn on the ice. But they all are (except the Axel).

As a sidenote; the toe and sal are the easiest because your hips are open to the rotation so you basically just have to close your hips, do a half rotation, and land on the other foot, instead of having to go all the way around with a closed hip. I have really open hips so for me toe and sal are actually TOO easy, like so much that it throws me off a little. For me flip and loop are the easiest jumps, I LOVE doing flips and loops! They're so much fun! And they're HUUGE!

@bondanoz But yeah you're right, by the time you actually leave the ice, you're facing the opposite direction then you started. Well, aside from the Axel and waltz... You should actually be facing straight forward when you leave the ice, THEN start to turn your body, otherwise you're doing it wrong and pre-rotating. (although the blade does kinda curve a bit as it takes off but that's getting overly technical lol).
-
@bondanoz Yeah, they are classified as "backward jumps" by the *edge* they take off from. All but Axel & Waltz take off from backward inside or outside edges. Loop, toe-loop & Lutz are all backward outside takeoff, while the flip & Salchow are backward inside takeoffs (If you ever wondered why, it's cause the foot you take off on has to be going in the direction you rotate, the Lutz is so difficult because it's actually going the wrong direction lol).
-
@moietmavieana Well not ALL but loop are caps, only half, 3 out of the 6 major jumps (not including Waltz) lol. Salchow Lutz & Axel are people's names, while loop toe-loop and flip are more like descriptions of the jumps themselves lol. I have a theory that the Loop (i think it should be caps if you put 'the' in front, as it makes it a proper noun) is named for the mark it leaves on the ice if done correctly, toe-loop is obvious lol. But flip I dunno, maybe cause it flips around?
excellent!! one question: you are doing a king of spiral( or something) before jump; how many of them is it necesary for a good salchow? is there any other begining or start?
thank!!!

It's just helps to imitate the conditions on the ice, nothing more. There are a lot of other entrances to the salchow.

well, I'm not speaking spanish as good as you are :), but understood well all you said. I'm learning spanish a few monthes.
I'm skating only 1 year, and these jumps are only on the ground. I'm not ready yet to do them on ice, but I hope it will change soon.
Can you make and upload your skating videos? It would be pretty interesting :)
