Hedge Funds use many different strategies to make money although broadly speaking they are often put into 3 main categories. This video details the categories and what the means are.

  • Ran out of space answering here as a Reply - moved the answer (in fuller form) to forum please. Best regards.

  • i'm registered but... i'm sorta lost which topic to go to.

  • I believe you found it: Site - Forum - Hedge Funds.

    Best Regards, Michael

  • I have been watching since the very first one and am very very greatful for what you are doing. but this one is the most hard to understand video of all, the second and third points seem like they need their own video section.

But regardless, thanks for these information.

  • Thank you for comment - will definitely bear in mind - thank you - you might want to, or could check out book at site (or specific book on hedge funds) as not always possible to get a lot of info on multi-faceted subject into a video. Thanks for comment - will try and best regards.

  • I want to start investing,I want to get obesse with this.I want to study this.I want to know everything about it, the ins and outs.

  • Is this a bad joke?

  • uncalled for...

Long/Short can be used in several contexts. The first instance, it may simply mean that your fund can go long or short, as you wish. In the other case, you always hedge any long position with a short position... for example being long ford, short GM, because you think they will diverge. Or better yet, you long ford, short the market. In this case, you are "hedged" against the market and are market neutral. So in what context is "long/short" being used to describ particular fund?

  • if you dont kno wats long wats short go back home and live with your parents

  • Guys. I'm having a bit of trouble defining long/short. Is the idea to do what this guy said, or to capture spreads... for example longing best and shorting worst in a sector to capture any increase in the spread of returns??? Thanks!

  • Globally, we need wide ranging and complete DEFINITION in all 'banking' departments and mandates, such that the savers, investors, gamblers and 'little old ladies' all KNOW where and how each penny of their money is being treated.

  • It seems that the term 'hedge fund' has become misused. Surely a fund should be designed and operated solely to PROTECT buying power rather than increase it.

The 'banking system' has lost it's definition in the same way and now assumes that 'banker' means 'everything to do with money', even a licence to gamble with clients' money ..... mostly for the benefit of the bank's balance sheets rather than the clients'.
