Agi Jambor, piano. Before Glenn Gould and Angela Hewitt, there was Agi Jambor. Agi was brought back to Baltimore to start a new life by one of her admirers also a Bach pianist and Harpsichordist, the psychiatrist Joseph Stephens. ..

  • Once again -- this is just GLORIOUS.

In a generally insane world an achievement of this magnitude serves to restore faith in humankind.

How I wish all those perpetually obsessed by the "warhorses" in piano literature could hear -- and fully appreciate -- the sparkling brilliance and structural integrity in this flawless gem.

    It's a joy to behold.

  • Joseph Stephens had counted 27 Concertos for piano and Orchestra, that Agi could perform upon demand in public, within 48 hours, including all the Bach Concerti, the Brahms, Chopin, Grieg, and most of the popular concerti, at the height of her career, in the 50s. This most gracious and lovely tiny woman, with the tiny hands was a musical giant. The beauty and integrity of her interpretations, could be matched only by a few pianists, and remind one of Dinu Lipatti's. Thank you for your comments.

  • I keep coming back to listen again and again. This performance only seems to become more and more wonderful each time I hear it -- and it never fails to energize and refresh.

As close to perfection as any mortal has ever come.

I find myself wishing Bach, himself, could have heard it.

  • Thank you so much for all your wonderful and very appropriate comments. The inner strength of Agi's performances comes through in all her recordings. No need for mannerisms or effects. She did not like Glenn Gould' s affectations.

This is one of Agi's favorite performances by Agi together with the Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue. It brings tears in my eyes every time I hear it. Please listen to Joseph Stephen's version on the harpsichord. He had the same principles.

  • I'm working on this piece right now so I've returned a number of times to listen to this recording. Simply breathtaking.. I kneel at the feet of Agi Jambor! The seemingly effortless and natural rendering belies all the thought and effort that surely went into this performance. Angela Hewitt's interpretation seems very mannered in comparison. I hope CDs of Ms. Jambor's complete recordings are available soon.

  • wow I love it... thanks for sharing

  • about the Bach's partita no6.i prefer Agi's version more than Glenn Gould . She shaped the phrase extremely beautiful and very deep emotional. I think is her life experience made her feel n think more about Bach's music. Same as pischnaholic .i wishing Bach himself could have heard it. i'm sure Bach himself will very like Agi's interpretation.

  • Absolutely SPLENDID! The warmest, most vivacious and open-hearted Bach playing I've ever heard on the piano.

Nothing more one could possibly say.
