Regardless the species, male babies have more testosterone coursing through their system. They are more aggressive, unruly, violent & louder.
And the attention they get from the adults are almost always immediate, too! W/ elephants, this round-the-clock protection & nurturing is more evident because females are genetically programmed, in some ways, to always stay flanking babies, as seen here, w/ the 2 bigger females, one of whom must be his sister, until mom comes running to wisk him away!
