http://abc.net.au/tv A team of no-nonsense midwives take badly behaved, binge drinking, chain-smoking, over-eating pregnant women who haven't grasped the fact that they are about to be mothers and whip them into shape. The midwives hope to transform the mums' behaviour and hopefully reverse the dangers currently posed to their baby's life.
In each episode, three pregnant women are given a final chance to sort their lives out. They are confronted by the midwives who act as a shock wake-up call. New technology enables them to see instantly the damage they are doing to their unborn children. Starts Wednesday, 4 January, 8.30pm, ABC2.
I should show this to my friend who smokes and drinks and she is 16 and pregnant... shameful really

@peterb1968 Well, you're right there. I've seen different gradations of FAS over the years, but once the first trimester is up, it's game over for FAS prevention. It's a life sentence for the child AND society, because these kids are prone to behavioural, and health issues, emotional disturbances, developmental problems and learning disorders, so they cost the Australian tax payer a MINT over the course of their lives. Many young men currently in jail have FAS.

@FantasmaBAnco I believe you are correct, but the more you drink the more likely the baby is to have it and the worse it may be.

You can't reverse foetal alcohol syndrome. You've got a window of opportunity in the first trimester to *minimise* harm to the foetus's and the mother's health, but you can't reverse FAS.
