This has nothing to do with American interests. Giant corporations want to get richer and more powerful so they sell their goods to other countries but if they find resistance my taxes has to support their security through the US Navy? Fuck that! Let those scumbags protect themselves.

halycon, in the scenario you outlined, american coast guards will capture them and they will be punished under american law but i dont think they will steal from them. You cant moral justification for thievery . There pirates are doing what pirates have always done through the ages. The only difference is that these guys come up with social/political reasons for their thievery.

A little known fact is that the US Navy was commissioned to protect the American commerce fleet from the Barbary Pirates, who incidentally, were also Muslims. The Marines were commissioned to rescue American sailors and seamen who were kidnapped by them. We have been @ war with Islam for a very long time...or should I say: We have had to protect our interest from attacks by them for a very long time.
