  • Wish I could answer that but I can't. I think they started it in the late 40's?  I'm not sure if the same thing exists today but all lenses have a code on them that probably contains the date of manufacture.

  • Correct observation however on all American cars, the date code on the tail light lenses can be the same for a multitude of years when the same lense design is used, the introductory year is the one you will find. i.e.- 68 tail lights in a 69 or 70 tail lights in a 72.
