Out in the snowfields of the steppe in their white camouflage suits armed with 7.62mm sniper rifles, these guys caused havic on the Nazi invaders, They crawled forward at night into bombed out buildings and out into no man's land, where they dug snow holes and hides from which to watch and shoot!

The Soviets fielded snipers in the thousands during ww2-In fact there were hundreds of thousands of Soviet snipers fighting in ww2 including well over 2,000 female snipers.
The best-equipped Soviet soldiers were the snipers. Little was denied them..

Of course, the number of confirmed kills is much lower than the real number of kills. For example, F.Okhlopkov killed over 1000(!) enemy soldiers and officers

Soviet snipers were equipped with either a scoped Mosin Nagant 91/30 or a scoped Tokarev SVT-40.

The following ammunition was used by Soviet snipers during ww2 - 7.62 mm rifle cartridges with light, heavy, armour-piercing (B-30), armour-piercing incendiary (B-32), ranging adjustment incendiary (PZ) and tracer (T-46) bullets. Cartridges with light and heavy bullets

I have been reading your flame war with superrachetclank and Nickeal7, very ammuseing people should know what they are argueing about not just troll. I only have one problem with the US and thats there anti-colonialism policey when they "settled" most of the area know as the united states and forced the natives on to reserves.

@anzuhu Most kills does not mean the best sniper. He was certainly the best shot and his life story is fantastic but Zaitsev came up with an entirly new form of snipeing technique and trained alot of snipers.

Finally, when by the end of 1944 Soviets finally gained real numerical superiority, 6.0 millions against 3.0 million Nazis, it was no contest, Soviets started to kill Nazi soldiers like chickens, in 5:1 ratio of killed. The Western Front is a different matter. By the end of 1944 there were 3.0 million Anglo-Saxons against 1.2 million Nazis. Even with that kind of superiority (2.5:1) Anglo-Saxons could barely advance. That's why all this is Nazi + Cold War propaganda misconception.

Another misconception is the numerical superiority of the Red Army. The quoted numbers for Soviets are for the whole Red Army (reserves too), irregulars and so on. For Nazis it's only Wehrmacht. Wrong again. There were dozens of Waffen SS and other divisions outside Wehrmacht, even Russian or Ukrainian anti-communists fighting alongside Wehrmacht. In 1942-1944 there were 5.5-5.9 million Soviets against 5.0-5.2 million Nazis. Almost no numerical superiority. Another Nazi + Cold War crap.

The facts are such: Soviets lost 6.0 million KIA/MIA on the Eastern Front. Axis lost 5.8 million KIA/MIA on the Eastern Front. Are you too lazy to read even Wikipedia? Soviets lost a lot of soldiers in 1941. From 1942 to 1945 they were killing more Axis soldiers than they lost. By 1944 the ratio was 3:1 in favor of Soviets, in 1945 it was 5:1. What is "widely known" is simply a remnant of Nazi + Cold War propaganda.

Maybe 90 million for Greater Germany with non-German persecuted minorities. They were not drafted into Wehrmacht. What "is widely known" is plainly wrong, exactly because of brainwashed folks like you. In Soviet military deaths, folks like you will include dead POW (3.6-3.8 million), and irregulars (~0.5 million), often killed in mass-executions, and who must be included in lost civilians. If Soviets had killed 5 million German POW they took, would you say that Axis lost ~11.5 KIA/MIA?

@anaplastic Like I said before, most of your numbers are wrong. For example the whole Nazi Germany had a population over 90 million people (not 75 million). It's a widely known fact that the soviet casulties were lot bigger than the wehrmacht casulties through out the war. You must either be a troll or a very brainwashed idiot.
