"Tell Him" is the name of a song written by Bert Berns. It became a hit in 1962 when it was released by The Exciters, rocketing up the Billboard Hot 100, and eventually peaking at #4 in 1963.
In the United States, Dean Parrish and Kenny Loggins both charted with cover versions of the song, both retitled "Tell Her." Parrish's record hit #97 on the Billboard chart in 1966 and Loggins' peaked at #76 in 1989.
In the UK, cover versions were released by Billie Davis and Alma Cogan in 1963, Hello in 1974 and Quentin and Ash in 1996.
Billie Davis and Hello's versions both became top 10 hits in the UK singles chart.
In 1980 Laura Branigan did a demo record of Tell Him, this is that version you are hearing now. Never released as a single or on one of her albums. This is truly a rare find.
The song was also covered in 1982 by girl group retro/new wave artist Josie Cotton on her album Convertible Music.
This was also performed by Vonda Shepard in 1998 and released on the Ally McBeal soundtrack.
In American Dreams, Nicole Richie portrayed Brenda Reid, the lead singer of the girl group The Exciters, and sang "Tell Him" in the show.
I know somethin' about love
You've gotta want it bad
If that guy's got into your blood
Go out and get him
If you want him to be the very part of you
That makes you want to breathe
Here's the thing you do
Tell him that you're never gonna leave him
Tell him that you're always gonna love him
Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now
I know somethin' about love
You gotta take it and
Show him what the worlds made of
One Kiss will prove it
If you want him to be
Always by your side
If you want him to
Only think of you
Tell him that you're never gonna leave him
Tell him that you're always gonna love him
Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now
Ever since the world began it's been that way
For man and woman were created
To make love their destiny
Then why should true love be so complicated? Oh
I know something about love
You gotta take it and
Show him what the world is made of
One kiss will prove it
If you want him to be
Always by your side
Take his hand tonight
Swallow your foolish pride and
Tell him that you're never gonna leave him
Tell him that you're always gonna love him
Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now
Tell him that you're never gonna leave him
Tell him that you're always gonna love him
Tell him, tell him, tell him, tell him right now
