Your ratings and comments are welcome! Video from John McDermott's live DVD "A Time to Remember" (2002). This song is not on the studio CD of the same title also released in 2002. But it is included on his studio CD titled "Remembrance" (1999), and a slightly different version is on his 2000 re-release of his studio CD titled "Love is a Voyage". A very nice song, performed well, with good stage presence.

To view this video in a high quality mode (for those with computers capable of displaying it), just click on the blue text "watch in high quality" that appears beneath the "views" counter. The video quality is dramatically better! I hope you will agree.

"JOHN CHARLES McDERMOTT is a Canadian tenor best known for his rendition of "Danny Boy." Born the ninth of twelve children to Irish parents in Glasgow Scotland in 1955, John and his family moved to Canada in 1965. Growing up in a musical family, his only formal musical training was at St. Michael's Choir School in Toronto, Ontario in 1971 and 1972."

  • i just hope music like this, you know, soft and nostalgiac, will always be sung and be remembered. He sort of reminds me of perry como. I am 20 yo btw.

  • @comeonfolks Thanks for the comment...but Perry Como??? Perry was probably the most unemotional and one-dimensional singer to ever make it big. Please don't lump John into the same category as Perry. :-)

  • On John's website you can get a Christmas DVD: Sharing Christmas with John McDermott and Friends. It comes with the CD of the same name via the online music store. I just got it and love it, some parts more than others. Performed July 2007. I've already watched it many times and have gotten used to John's new gray curls. It's not quite as polished as the PBS one, but if you love John, you'll love this.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • Thanks for this lovely song. John gets better looking as he gets older, lucky man.

  • Crikey! Three for three! Thanks again for all of your nice comments. Cheers!

  • I love this song - it expresses what is in my heart about those I've lost: parents, husband.

It is such a comforting song. Thank you Eric for writing it, and John for such a beautiful rendition of it.

  • In remembrance of Cecil W. Garrett, Marcos DeCampos and Greg Nowak who left us much to early in their lives. Those who loved them miss them so much.

  • Beautiful!

  • this song eases the pain for the ones who have passed

  • I saw Eric Bogle in Stirling in August 2005. He dedicated this song to our baby Sam who died as a baby 5 years before. If Sam had lived, the day following the concert would have been his first day at school. My wife & i cried buckets as Eric sang the song beautifully.

  • John's version of Eric's song has gotten me though a very sad time in my life--it still does. Magnificent!

  • When you get a writer like Eric Bogle and a performer like John McDermott teamed up like they've been over the years, you can't beat that combination. Thanks for posting. Pete

  • My Biology teacher went to John's show last night, and told me to listen to this song because my twin sister passed away 2 weeks ago. This is beautiful
