I was very recently sent a beautiful "teardrop" mountain dulcimer by a gifted luthier in Baltimore called Dave Sewell. This is my very first (crude) attempt at an outing on the instrument in D-A-A tuning, with a guitar backing. The tune is from an old English folk song (also called "Three Jolly Rogues Of Lynn") about a miller, a weaver and a tailor - who go to the bad!

  • This is really lovely. Not inspired by the Roger Nicholson version by any chance?

  • @Blacksquareable Yes - absolutely inspired by Roger's version! (I also sing it with guitar in the same style). I love his "Nonesuch For Dulcimer" album with Bob Johnson on guitar. I was in correspondence with Roger a few months before his death - a sad loss (he'd been in poor health for many years) and it's a huge shame that he died so young. An inspiration to many of us. :-)

  • I know this tune as 'Good Old Colony Days' or 'The Jolly Rogues of Lynn', both likely borrowed from this tune.

    Great version!

  • @Pangael Yes - they're all related! :-)

  • I also know another version of this called 'King Arthur had Three Sons.' Ever heard it?

  • No - this is the only version I know... :-)
