Longest suspended monorail in the world. Look from drivers perspective. 2x speed up.

I am filming from Chiba station. There are 2 lines starting from there. First one is long, second is short.

  • I must say Japan is very clean and innovative too.The Sony rolly is a very good example. This suspended monorail is damn cool.Japan has some of the highest car ownership rates on earth but still has an amazing public trasportation system.Hope they get well soon and I also wish my country India becomes a developed one with unique traditional values, just like japan!

I do have a question though, what use is this monorail for daily commuters when they have other normal mass transit systems?

  • @cillantro yes, monorail is used to move around masses. It can be pretty crowded during rush hour. For other areas, which are not served by monorail, they use buses.

    Greetings to India!

That's a very good point. It's a bit scarey hanging down with nothing underneath. I really can't believe there is any technical or financial reason. Of course, it would be particularly good for shipping freight.

  • @patrickcorliss or it is just the psychology of the ppl. they see something "hanging" and in their mind it is dangerous to fall. so it could mean less passengers. just my guess :)

  • @dimos47ki7

I've been thinking about that myself. I suppose there's a slight danger that a suspended system could fall down to the ground whereas what they call a straddle-system (on top) would just sit on the runner. I'd guess that it is easier to make the floor level in a straddle system but it would need reinforcing in case people were too heavy.

But it looks to me like a suspension system would be faster and easier to operate. I wonder why most people go with the straddle system.

  • 如果電車地板是透明的應該會很恐怖吧!!
