  • The movie was American mastubation and you know it. Started off well then the fresh prince uppercuts the alien, ruining any threat/scare factor. The redneck flies up the motherships ass, microsoft supports alien technology, the pres is an ace fighter pilot AMERIKHU FUK YEH. Star Trek was worth a million Independence Days, Confused M, and your credibility is diminishing.

  • Comparing Star Trek to Independence Day is like comparing Seinfeld to the Eleven O'clock news.

I can make the claim that Independence Day was better than Armageddon, but I can't possibly say it was any better or worse than Star Trek - its just different.

Was this film American masturbation? Probably. I'd say it was Hollywood masturbation - but neither of those two things automatically make it bad.

  • I couldn't believe a nuke didn't hurt them. When you nuke an enemy, you're unleashing cosmic forces on them that shake them down to their protons. We still feel the radiation from Hiroshima and Nagasaki all around the world, and those were insignificant compared to the ones we have today. I was a little kid around the time of Chernobyl, and normally four-leaf clovers are 1 in 10000, but I was finding them everywhere. Hell, I was finding five leaf, six leaf, seven leaf clovers.

  • I'm surprised you didn't mention the scene when Will Smith steals the helicopter to go look for his wife in the ruins of LA, and finds her in like five minutes. I can just about buy a macbook uploading a virus to the aliens, but that bit always killed me. It's moments like that when I wonder how this story would've played as a more expansive mini-series instead of a 150 minute movie. But of course that's impossible, because it's one of those movies that just has to be a big-screen summer flick.

  • "Sunny ass crap and f**k balls!" (3:41) LOL!! ;p

I can't tell you how much I enjoy your reviews - they're so entertaining and educational. :)

  • Naah, I'm never offended by comments like this. On the contrary, its always great to get different points of view on a subject.

    Thanks for watching :)

  • I completely see your point Matthew and I hope you do see mine too, hey no hard feelings we just don't agree on this precise point it's funny because I usually agree with you 99% of the time. And I'm sorry if I ever offended as an American in anyway, because I still think you're the greatest film critic out there, seriously you have forever changed the way I look at movies. I have a lot of sincere admiration and respect for you, so keep on doing your thing.

    Your number 1 fan.

  • My only point is that if they - or any other nation - were to make an action film of this sort it would be understandable and even appropriate to portray themselves in the best possible light.

All I meant is that I don't think it was even on Emmerich - or anyone else's - radar screen to put propaganda in this film. Emmerich's later film "The Day After Tomorrow" had tons more propaganda than this one, and America was portrayed as the world's ass hole in that one.

  • You know, no offence but films like these only exist in the United States, I've personally never heard of such blockbusters coming out from France nor anywhere else in the world as a matter of a fact. Well at least to my knowledge; are you capable of naming one? Who knows maybe that is the problem?

  • Well, the American chest-thumping in the film was certainly silly and pompous, but I wouldn't call in "propaganda" by any stretch of the imagination.

The film is - after all - made and set in America. I would expect the same self-glorification had this been made and set in France, and I certainly wouldn't call it French "propaganda" in that case either.

  • Your videos are awesome :)
