What Recession?
The problem with foreigners buying houses or land in Thailand is they can't 'legally' own it.
The property would have to go into your Thai wife's name or Thai partner's name and then there could be problems if a divorce or a split up arose.
Very high risk indeed!!!
Would you take the risk?
I did and lived in Thailand for almost 8 years and built a family home. Had 2 children then my wife left the kids and I in England.
We were together a long time and I still lost a lot!!!
