Elgar Pomp & Circumstance Washington Cathedral

Washington Cathedral's then-Assistant Organist Nicholas White performs. Prior to coming to the cathedral, Nick was (among other things) organ scholar at Clare College, Cambridge. Please excuse the primitive audio & video: this was taped in 1996 with analog equipment, & has gone thru several editing iterations that have diluted everything. And in compressing it to fit on YouTube, the sound & video have gotten a little out of sync. I'm working on it. But you can still get an idea of what this amazing instrument in the spectacular acoustics of the world's 6th-largest cathedral can do in the hands of a superbly-skilled organist.

They do not realize what they are doing if they try to replace the Aeolian-Skinner organ. It would be like repainting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Aeolian-Skinner produced the finest pipe organs in the United States. Ask the Lincoln Center. When they sold their organ they found out they made a mistake and tried to buy the old one back. Especially replacing it with a Casavant. Rather like replacing a Duesenberg with a Hummer. Something new - but nowhere near being in the same class.

Actually the 64' Contra Basse is a digital stop added by Rodgers if I'm not mistaken.
