Teenager Wins Speed Texting Competition

It may be seen as a quick and easy way of sending a message from one mobile phone to another but now it's a national competition.

Fifteen-year-old Kate Moore from Iowa has become the third winner of the U.S. national cell phone speed texting competition pocketing a cool fifty thousand dollars in prize money along the way. Watched on by her mother, Moore received the winning text to say she was the fastest but found it hard to take in her new found success.

[Kate Moore, Winner Texting Competition]: "Then I see my phone vibrate and I just broke down inside, I was, 'Oh my God, I've just won fifty thousand dollars.' I came to that realization."

Twenty-two participants competed against each other to see who could type out complex messages the fastest. The two finalists fought it out over three rounds and with the first round going to Georgia's Morgan Dynda, Moore quickly came back to take the next two rounds and clinch victory. She said she got some expert advice from her mom on how to become a texting champ. [Kate Moore, Winner Texting Competition]: "One of the drills my mom taught me to do and I don't know how well it worked was typing out all 50 states. I don't know why, I just kept doing that over and over again and that really upped my speed." While many parents think texting is a bad idea at least for Moore it has paid off.
