mrwood has a point. a championship is a championship. you know, before there superbowls, the Lions won quite a few championships. so its not like their franchise totally blows because they have never won a superbowl.
I wouldn't call 6 championships in 70+ years dominating a sport. They "dominated" the mid to late 70s. That's about it. Don't try to make the Steelers out to be the Boston Celtics or the NY Yankees of the NFL.
so you're saying that winning a championship with 1/4 to less than 1/2 of the current teams in the league is just as impressive as with 32? yes, I am aware that football existed before the Super Bowl, but the Steelers have dominated the sport as far as most are concerned
Anywhere between 8 and 15 teams back then. But what is the difference? If we are basing titles on how many teams there were, then what about the Lakers of the 50s, the Celtics of the 60s, or the Yankees of the 50s. Steeler, Cowboy, and 49er fans like to pretend that NFL titles started with Super Bowl 1. Bottom line, it doesn't matter if there are 4 teams in a league or 40 teams. A championship is a championship.
