Trumpeter Swans were declared an endangered species back in the early 1980's. Since 1988, the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre in Midland, Ontario has been participating in a reintroduction program to help bring the Trumpeters back to Eastern Ontario. At the time there were less than 24 pairs of Trumpeters in all of Canada; there are now 1000+ individual swans in Ontario, and 131 breeding pairs.

These videos were taken at the Wye Marsh in January 2007. The background music is two of my original compositions, "Grey Clouds Moving By" and "Cold Morning in June" from my first album, "Medieval Cottage Songs" (copyright 2000).

Compositions from all three of my albums can be purchased through CDBaby.com and most on-line downloading services (iTunes, Napster, Weed, etc.) Also, the guitars I use were all made by myself.

  • We need some of those down here in Indiana to shoo away all the Canadian Geese, at least the swans are better to look at.

  • @DaddyCaldwell Geese are everywhere!

  • I'm just glad the swans are HOPEFULLY going to be protected from being hunted

  • Well, there is a fine for shooting them, and hunters are supposed to know the difference between a swan and a goose whether it's on the land or in the air...

  • Thank you for a superb video. I have not seen a wild one here. They are the biggest of the swans and can go upto and in some cases, beyond 35 llbs in weight. Beautiful Birds.

Peace and Love from all at CDMAGZ.

  • They're certainly beautiful to see flying overhead.
