Higher Ed Signing Bill. August 22, 2012 (Transcript Below)
Governor Christie: And I am not going to be someone who is going to give in to you all wanting to label me. That's it. Here's the label, I'm a Republican. Always have been. Proud to be one. Became one when I was 18 years old in my dorm room at the University of Delaware when I voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980 for president as my first vote and been a Republican ever since. And proud to be one. Beyond that label, I'll take father, son, husband, brother. I don't need any other labels. You all will look at every issue and micromanage, well what does he look moderate on this issue, does he look conservative on this issue. I am who I am. And I'm content with letting the people of New Jersey judge me up or down based upon what I say and what I do and how I perform as Governor. But I think I've got a pretty good position in the Republican Party nationally and I would get you this, probably with the exception of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, just about anybody would trade with me at this moment for my position in the national Republican Party. So I feel pretty good about where I am and not the least bit concerned about heading to Tampa.
