My first bounce video.

First, a not-so-brief history.

I bought my first set of bounce balls about 2 years ago and never touched them. Mainly due to a lack of any place to practice and absolutely no friends that were into it. I just never got into it. So, I ended up selling them at a festival a short time later after figuring out the 3b lift and force cascade.

Flash forward to the Kansas City juggling festival, early October, 2009. I bought another set of 5 bounce balls(3" Play B-16) from Cheryl Sayers, determined to make it happen this time. I have a good friend in my current juggling club who knows a bunch of bounce stuff and, I have a garage with a smooth concrete floor to practice on.

I've become immersed in bounce juggling over the last two weeks. Even to the point that my other juggling is probably suffering for it. Oh well, I'm having way too much fun exploring the new tricks and possibilities. I'll probably be like this for a month or two, then I'll back off and all of my juggling will even out again but, for right now, I'm bouncing more than all of my other juggling combined!

So, here it is. My bounce juggling video. Sorry for the uninteresting background and never changing camera angle. The music is Hydrophidian. It's my own, personal music project. It might not fit the feeling of the video as much but, who cares? It's a thrown together montage video of tricks I've learned over the last two weeks and hastily shot in my garage. It is what it is.

I took the liberty of leaving in some mistakes and, less than professional moments, just to give the video a little flavor. The tricks are shot in order of number of balls. It starts with three balls, goes to four and, ends with a reasonably long(59 catches) run of the five ball cascade. 4:25 minutes and roughly 30 tricks. Not too bad for only two weeks of practice. My current personal best with the 5b cascade is 90 catches.

  • oh yeah, and the music was awesome!!! I haven't forgotten about you, I still want to do another "multiplexocalypse" video soon and I would love to feature a Hydrophidian song in the video. I have several new mplex patterns and I will try to make that video within the next few months.

  • Awesome! I've got tons of songs already written or, if you're interested in a specific bpm, time signature or style, I could possibly write an original for you.

  • Can you force bounce 5?

  • Not yet but, it's one of the tricks I'm working on.

  • Keep it up! Some of those tricks are pretty hard. particularly the box variations and the (4x,4x) one side tossed one forced.

I recommend trying some toss/ forced 441 variations and try some fun stuff with 531.

  • I've got a trick request for you. The trick that I did at 2:03 I've never seen it done before but, it wasn't really that hard. Could you try it with 4? I can't run a 4b, forced shower, or I'd try.

  • great! I will try my best to make that video by the end of this year, because at the start of 2010 I will be busy working on 3YOJ!!!

  • hooray for long video descriptions! I want to be a good bounce juggler but I hate to practice it... I'm just like you, I can run 5balls tossing for several minutes but I struggle to get 50+ catches of 5b lift bounce, haha.

Really cool video! Great arsenal of tricks for only 2 weeks at it... I really liked the trick at 2:02. I've never seen that before either. Hopefully jamesfrancis can pull it off with 4!
