*Note* previous upload was weird so I uploaded again.

This is Ubuntu 8.10 running compiz-fusion and cairo-dock. The graphical glitches and lagging only appear in the video, I do not experience them when using the computer.

When the high definition version becomes available I recommend watching that one, since you can't really see that much in the lower quality version.

Edit: Just want to point out that I know there's not really anything new here, I originally made this video to simply show people that Ubuntu can look really nice *without* the effects being too intrusive.
A lot of people like their OS to function well and look good at the same time. That applies to me.

  • Will those effects work on my crappy ass laptop?

    1.5 Ghz Celeron

    64 MB video RAM

    2 GB RAM

    320 GB HD

  • It's hard to say, should be possible. A lot depends on your video card. You can try going to the ubuntu forums and seeing if someone has posted something about your specifik video card.

  • it is awesome but whats the point if you cant do gaming? O.o

  • You can do other stuff with computers than play games you know.

But anyway, a lot of people actually do play games on Ubuntu, there are whole forums dedicated to just that. It's more trouble but it's very much possible.

I just dual-boot if I want to game. It's not really hard to keep a win installation and a few gigs seperate from the ubuntu installation.

  • Hey, what are your comp specs.. and what icon pack/gnome theme are you using? Kthxbai.

  • asus g1s laptop.

    Icon theme is Buuf/Deuce

  • Maybe a tad closed minded Vames, Ill admit Ubuntu/ Linux can seem annoying and fiddly at times.. especially if you come with a windows mindset, but its hard to overlook some great features it brings to the table too ;)

    Personally I use both.

  • Ah, there it is! Thanks again! :)

  • Fuck, now I want to get Ubuntu back. I dual boted it on my old comp but it SEVERELY reduced performance, making gaming almost impossible on Windows. Now that I has a supercomputer I don't want to screw it up like my old comp.
