the one thing that really hurt ansi art's *LEGACY*(no pun intended) is how so many of us just copied off of comic book art instead of trying to create anything unique or original... so you'll see a sh**load of ansis of maxx or spawn or whatever other comic might have been popular at the time.

At this time, i look at old ansi bbs ads as if they were old 1930's movie posters. It's a sort of nostalgia art that intrigues people in the same way.

Artists have always drawn what was important to them at the time. Cavemen drew herds, their means of sustaining life. Painters during the Renaissance drew all sorts of religious characters and themes because religion was important to them and guided their lives. Ansi artists were mostly nerdy teens who were obsessed by comics and women and pop-culture and I think they did pretty great work, all things considered. It's a limited artform but it's still being expanded by creative individuals.

@zerovision666 its def coming back, planning to reintroduce this to the latest generation of nihilist artists in newyork sometime next year, try to bring "hacker art" (god i fucking hate that term) back, the shitty thing is most of them prob arent willing to sit for a couple hours in pablodraw to lay this out. ansi aint dead, it just hasnt come back around yet.

It just got a little silly when you'd see a dozen ansis of Spawn or Maxx in a single artpack. And I have no doubt that 9 out of 10 ansi artists at the time were copying comic books not because they were huge comic book fans, but because they knew that the black-inked linework and airbrushing translated well into ansi art.
