She should sing this song with more meaning.

I don't think that this song needs a black voice but what it needs is real feeling of being dissed. In the film, you can see the heartbreak of the girl with her young son losing her man, Lafayette to the hippies. It doesn't matter if the white girl is pregnant with Lafayette's baby or someone elses, She is losing him and it is a song about heartbreak. The girl singing this song is very good but the performance lacks the pathos that it calls for.

Absolutley fantastic. I have loved this song since I first heard it watching Hair back in the 70's. Great social messge there. Great job with such a powerful song

@welshlad0621 That's great!
This is going to sound racially motivated, but it is. Personal preference for me is hearing a black voice. For a white girl, it was fine. Nice little soprano voice. But I feel for this song, just hitting the notes is not enough. You need passion beyond the lyrics built into the song. She's just kinda pacing around and looking a little uncomfortable. She needs to at least change her facial expression. I really do mean this as constructive criticism, so please take it that way

@bloodynyphm, Thanks, I'll pass your comments allong. This is my Daughter and she was only 13 at the time and in a midle school tallent show. She has since become a Vocal major at a local arts school. She blew me away at the time and wanted to share this with my family and freinds over seas.
