I just wanted this recorded so that I could enjoy my pond and my fish during the deep freeze of our Canadian winter.

  • never POKE,CHOP OR SMASH holes in your ice the shock waves can severely distress a fish whos immune system is already at or close to zero for the winter. simply run an air line into the pond about 8" down. if your pond is froze over put a pan of hot water on it till it melts thru some rock salt underneath will speed the process.

  • Thanks bu no worries. Once I shut down the pond (end of Oct) I don't touch it. I remove the pump from my skimmer and place it on a ledge directly in the pond. It runs all winter keeping the water aerated and there is always an opening somewhere. Plus the reeds also help to extract any toxic gases.

  • that message was not for you it was for chelpete007...he suggested that you make sure to poke holes in the ice for gas exchange.

  • Ookie dokie and thank you.

  • awesome pond!

  • Can you describe step by step how do you made a waterfall, please !!!

  • Great camera great pond

  • NICE SETUP !! feel free to check out my pond videos and channel

  • Make sure you poke holes in the ice during the winter time so that the toxins the plants release won't poison your koi & allow new oxygen in for them! Beautiful fish, lovely pond! Your fish look very happy!
