I just ordered an MTH AIU to add to my layout so this was very informative. The i-pod is a great idea too. Thank you for sharing all the info and your layout.

how much does the remote control cost cause i may want so i can walk around while controlling my trains.
-
you know what i would do, i would buy a undecorated boxcar and build the inside of it into sound you know like take apart a old engine and sever the sound system and put it into the boxcar. then paint the boxcar into a music boxcar and music thourgh it.

How do you run all those trains off of (3) 180W Bricks........I have (2) bricks and I'm having trouble running (2) of the Lionel Hybrid ES44's in a lash up. There must be something I'm missing here, any advice you could provide would be appreciated. Also how do you have all your transformers in one location on the layout? Do you not have to have them spaced out every 20 feet or so?

@SirSebaztian Are you trying to run those engines conventionally or using Lionel's Legacy control system?

you should try a z 4000 or two...

I love the Z4000's, but I think they would be overkill. I don't need to vary to voltage to track at all, so all the handles and buttons on a Z4000 would go to waste. I just need a constant 18v of power to the track, which is what the Lionel Powerhouse bricks are made for.
