i heard somthing about the bombs they used in the greece riots, it was somthing like a lightbulb ammonia bombs does anybody know about those?

as you see the flames drop you see that Ammonia is heavier then air and follows the gas at the top of the room down and floor where it burns for a while. interesting video and to note is it not a percentage of ammonia and air needed to become dangerously flammable ?
-
@rippish No, the light bulb filiment served as a heat source to ignite the ammonia vapor.

I was an ammonia refrigeration engineer for 23 years, and would add to your comment that the addition of refrigeration oil during a release may widen that explosive range a great deal.

Contact Gary Smith at ASTI (Ammonia Safety Training Institute) for info on this training video. This was a training video to demonstrate the explosive ability of ammonia. In one of these videos a man in a Level A HazMat remained inside the container during an explosion. It was really cool!
ASTI has an amazing ammonia training program, including actual releases of ammonia.

I have no background on the testing methods. This was provided by an instructor in a HazMat class I took. Oddly enough, Ammonia isn't labeled as flammable/combustible when transported on the roads in the US.
