  • great to see real discussion in the comments rather than people just putting down other styles. I agree totally that point fighting will not prepare you for the street. You should always be aware what you're training for - if youre going to a competition then training is a lot different than if you want to protect yourself from a mugger. As long as you are aware of what you are training for and make it 100% relevant to that environment - all styles have value :D longest comment ever lol

  • Anyone seen Ogata ever use a kick? He's usually all hands and sweeps. Not denigrating; just interested. It's incredibly effective.

  • So what rules are these under anyways? It's looks great.

  • Sweet.

    Go Machida!! (Lyoto's brother)

  • Also, if you watch first 10 minutes of Enter the Dragon, pay attention to what is Bruce Lee saying to his Shaolin master. There is quite startling statement. I won't tell you, you'll see yourself when you listen and will know which one I meant. :)

  • ancient martial arts said that it exist for spiritual development and this is very true. If your body is trained but spirit/mind is not, you have little chance of success when you face sudden, unexpected confrontation. Only mu-shin, or no-mind can handle the situations like that. But even saying this is not enough, there are deeper layers in understanding this spiritual-mental condition. Ultimate achievement would be achieving a style with no-style (as mentioned in one of BruceLee's movies).

  • The Japanese guy grabs Chinzo's arm(Brazil) a couple of times.

  • I belong to IFK under hanshi Arneil, tis is an open minded federation...open to all who wanna fight under Kyokushin rules,no metter of style. We are aware of this, and we train in such way that we could block punches thrown to the "head area",with kicks no problem, couse kicks are alowed full contact to every area. I found my way in Kyokushinkai, and finalyy I can fight free... Osu No Seishin!!

  • NO WONDER! WKF is sport karate. My school under KWF was hardcore. kyokushinkai is cool and seido is cool. they retained the budo. but becareful with Kyoku training. no punch to the head is bad for actual emergency situation and kinda unrealistic. its gonna be rare for a mugger to try to kick you in the head. but still, kyoku is great!

  • No,my school was ok. I was training in WKF,under a real good sensei, champ in both,Kata and Kumite...

I think, the problem is the point system, and those sissy rules :( I was at 3rd place at national championships at -75kg, but one time I had enough and I went to practice Kyokushinkai :)) I was trainig hard there, and a few of my old training partners came to fight with me again, they all were much better than me in shotokan but with full contact rules they had no chance!! !!Than it hit me!!
