Because Jeff is a popular boy's name., and it was popular back then. Back in the 50's, there were no guys named Brandon, Zack, Jaden, Caleb, Connor, Colton, or Aiden.

In all of these films, why is the guy's name always Jeff? Has anyone else noticed this?

@lonewulf44 Good comment lonewulf44. The world could be fixed so easily with two easy steps . .
1. Common Courtesy
2. Common Sense
With these 2 simple actions the world would improve 100% overnite.
Too bad that isn't going to happen, but it sure seems easy when 'ya think about it..
So close yet so far away :(

@lonewulf44 Not quite a "lone wolf" if you like elders to tell you what to do, are you? "filter as much FROM a child as possible' ? You clearly believe in totalitarian culture, and oppression of the young by the old. Nothing has stalled the progress of humanity more than the idea that the way thing are done now is how they should always be done. If you don't believe the youth are sovereign persons with as much right to think and behave the way they see fit, I have nothing more to say to you.

Respond to this video... And I don't see this time period being one of absolute conformity. No more than today's society would dictate ... although it depends on what area you are referring to with conformity.
-
@AshleyKScott Well yes most don't , but that's the job of a parent is to regulate protect their children ... especially in the dating arena. That doesn't mean they force weddings or lock their children up in the attic but it does mean at least attempting to filter as much from a child as possible. As almost always is the case, when properly handled the child realizes the wisdom too late. Part of life. Usually a lot of heart ache and consequences involved, but lessons learned.

@lonewulf44 Most people don't want their parents deciding when, whom and how they date. Why pine for a time when absolute conformity was required? Who wants their romantic lives dictated by the opinion of nosey outsiders?

@ShawnWreck That's not at all an accurate depiction of my thoughts nor the ratio of comparison I made. I'm not equating or attempting to make right the wrongs of the past. But my statement stands in that the ill of today far exceeds that of the bygone era seen. 'a few thank yous and ma'am' doesn't begin to describe the gulf between our times and how much more society, goodwill, lives (physically as well as emotional and mentally) families, employment, and dozens more were better overall
-
@lonewulf44 so you'd prefer that an entire segment of the population be treated as subhuman for a few thank you's and ma'am. that's totally fucked.
-
@ShawnWreck A lot of things in a lot of times were acceptable and no longer are. A lot of things in a lot of times were unacceptable and no longer are. Society and peoples regress as well as progress. I'll take the bad of these times compared with the bad of today any day of the week. A better time .... I still overwhelmingly believe so.
In 1983-87 I was in high school. One day in class, for reasons I dont know or recall, they rolled in the school 16mm movie projector and played a few of these old 1950s Coronet films on how to date, how to be polite, etc. My classmates laughed through them. The wooden acting, the squeaky clean activities, the over politeness, the innocent slang used at the time (gee, golly, etc). I on the other hand wasnt laughing. I found these films to be quite charming. A time capsule of a more innocent era.

Easy to mock but just because we have forgotten how a society built on principles and standards functions because todays is so broken and degenerate. Sigh, just a better time. Born 60 years too late!
