Video Clip of Runner Falling On Snow Covered Ice -- he was not hurt -- thankfully. This was filmed on 1/28/12 in Geneva, OH which is in Northeast Ohio.
With winter here, be extra careful on snow covered sidewalks since you never know if ice is underneath.
Northeast Ohio is in the heart of the snowbelt where they usually receive over 100 inches of snowfall a year. The road departments do a great job of keeping the roads clear so emergency vehicles - - like ambulance's and fire truck's - - can help save lives.
Feel free to check out other exclusive video in the "Winter Weather" playlist like blizzards, winter storm/lake effect storm warnings, car accidents, icy roads, fire trucks, ambulances, people falling on ice/digging out, heavy snow/kids playing in snow, huge ice sculture 26 feet high - 90 feet around & 85,000 lbs, cars stranded, vehicles flippped over, winds blowing over 50 mph, kids shoveling snow, people walking in heavy snow, cars stuck in snow spinning their tires. Most is from Northeast Ohio which is in the heart of the snowbelt which usually gets over 100 inches of snow a yr. On avg, Lake Erie is only 62 feet deep (shallowest of the Great Lakes). So in the summer months, the water temps rise to the high 70's since it's so shallow. These water temps are still warm when the cold polar fronts come in from Canada called Alberta Clippers during the winter months. Lake effect snow is heavy in Nov/Dec when the water temps are still warm and these Clippers blow across the long expanses of warm lake water picking up water vapor, freezing it then dropping it as snow on the leeward shores of Lake Erie especially in Northeast Ohio. The distance this cold airmass blows across the waters of Lake Erie is called "fetch" so longer the fetch -- the heavier the snow esp when you get winds blowing out of the west and you get a long fetch across Lake Erie -- this effect is called a "training effect" because the snow band looks like a train track (long, very narrow snow band of that runs from west to east in a straight line). Plus, the western basin of Lake Erie is very shallow w/ an avg only 25-30 feet so water temps get very warm so in Nov/De when you get these cold Clippers blowing across this warm water in a west to east direction over a long fetch -- you get a "training effect" where this Clipper system will drop huge snowfall amounts in Northeast Ohio in cities like Cleveland, Euclid, Mentor, Chardon, Perry, Geneva, Ashtabula. Lake Erie water temps are the warmest of all the Great Lakes which in 1999 nearly became a problem for 2 nuclear power plants on Lake Erie -- where water temps came to close to 85 degrees. The nuclear reactors at these plants require Lake Erie waters to cool the nuclear reactor cores & there's an 85 degree water temp limit necessary to keep these reactor cores (fuel rods) cool. 1 plant is located in Perry -- the Perry plant cost $6 billion which is one of the most expensive ever built. Close to Perry is Chardon -- the snowiest town in Ohio. It's not uncommon for Chardon to get 24 inches of snow in a day - sometimes lake effect snow totals can be over 70 inches which in 1996 -- the Governor declared a "State of Emergency" and called in The National Guard to help w/ rescues and snow removal. Chardon is also known for it's maple syrup festival in the fall. The road departments across all of Northeast Ohio do a great job of keeping the roads clear so emergency vehicles - like ambulance's and fire truck's - can help save lives. This playlist has the Polar Bear Plunge filmed on the shores of frozen Lake Erie in the town of Geneva-on-the-Lake(OH) which hosts this event every year. The slogan of the Plunge is "Freezin For A Reason" -- it raises money for Special Olympics and is put on by OH Law Enforcement. During the Plunge, wind chill temps can be 5 degrees below zero & the water temp 32 degrees so hyperthermia is always a danger so paramedics are standing by. On this playlist are the covered bridges of Ashtabula Co. & has the most covered bridges -- currently 17 -- of any of the 88 counties. The Smolen--Gulf Bridge is the longest covered bridge in the United States (4th longest in the world) was designed by John Smolen. It's 613 feet long & 93 feet above the Ashtabula river. The shortest covered bridge in the U.S. is being built in Geneva, OH. It will be 18 feet long and called the "Liberty Bridge", it'll have a tollbooth similar to covered bridges during pioneer days. John Smolen designed this bridge. Ashtabula Co. will have the longest & shortest covered bridges in the U.S. I also have vids from the Amish communities in Northeast Ohio from towns like Windsor, Middlefield, Mesopatmia where I film the Amish driving their buggies in blizzards and heavy snow.
