I think it was John that really made The Libertines. I mean, don't get me wrong, but Pete is an amazing songwriter, Carl is a natural guitarist and a better singer than Pete in my opinion. Gary - well Gary owns the drums like no other, but the guy at the side is who really matters. It isn't the same without John Hassall and his bass. Sure, Pete & Carl can do solos well, but there's something different without John in a band performance, and it is better with him. Listen to the bass! :-)
