Dixie and Savannah are having a bit of a problem w/ static electricity causing their popcorn crumbs to cling to their beak.

Who is Savannah??
Well, Savannah and Dixie came to us from a breeder in California in the Fall of 2007. They spent their quarantine time toghether at my house. I have a couple of videos of them together when they got here. After quarantine Savannah went to live with my sister in Florida.

A few months ago my sister started working very long days and Savannah started plucking feathers.

So, we decided to let Savannah come live with us to see if she improved. She has been here one week and I thought things were going well. Yesterday, however, I spent most of the day away from home and Savannah is very upset. She has been pulling chest feathers all day today.

My plan to help Savannah get over this is to try this:

And, I will also be trying one of these collars:

I also provide Savannah with lots of destructible toys and as much interaction with us as possible. She also gets a daily shower and a healthy fresh diet with no preservatives.

Here is a photo album I have started so I can watch Savannah's progress:

  • how nice that savannah can come to her behavior analysts house to work on her behavior plan, and learn replacement behaviors to decrease her target behaviors!!!

Andto have Dixie model appropriate behavior skills!!!

  • LOL!! that is what we tell Dixie....to be a good example to her big sister!! She just ignores Savannah though. They both ignore each other unless they are near each other...then they growl at each other.

  • When Dixie lifted her head up I cracked up laughing! How cute. Good luck with Savannah, I know how hard it can be to get them to stop plucking once they start.

  • so funny....huh? After they finished their snack...they shook their heads....now I will be picking up popcorn crumbs from all corners of the house!! I hope Savannah gets over her plucking also!! All we can do is try......is she doesn't stop we will love her anyway.

  • I just found today about these parrots. They are beautiful! We have a lovebird & a Green Cheek so we can't have these (since we got also a 1yr old & a baby on the way) but they are beautiful. Take good care of them.

  • They were really enjoying that popcorn, cute birds.

  • ha ha... this is soooo funny!

  • Oh this was so cute and funny! Love those girls.

  • i wonder if savannah will do better if YOU DONT GIVE HER SO MUCH STATIC!!!

    (HAHAHA)

  • Thank you. I'm sure she will do well at your home. (Just stay home, ha ha)

  • Savannah has only been here a week, so she is still adjusting to being away from my sister and being in a new home.
