Learning to scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef, Australia, back in the year 2000. We had a 1 week training course including 9 dives on a liveaboard which moved between different reefs. Video includes parts of the PADI open water certification including navigation, removing mask. Lots of fish, turtles, corals and other amazing underwater life. Fran is wearing pink fins, and Neil has odd blue and green fins.

The last two minutes show some library footage from Cairns Dive Centre.

  • How does the bouyancy control work?

  • @RaisonnHead you wear a BCD (bouyancy control device) which is like a vest with air pockets that you can fill and empty; you also use the air in your lungs, take a deep breath and you go up, breathe out and you go down. The section you see in the video where we are going up and down is using the breathing technique.

  • how deep under water is it?

  • @xAllie88x about 20 meters (60ft) maximum for an open water certificate

  • is it hard to breathe with the scuba mask on?

  • @Changchey it feels weird at first but it's not hard.

  • @kevinhvnguyen nope. just don't touch, don't damage it!

  • @jman21121 it's a test to make sure you don't panic, and that you can put it back on (in case it gets knocked off accidentally)
