I took this film with a very plain Kodak 12 mega-pixel camera. So please bear with me for the amateurishness and not so good quality of video footage. I'm also basically experimenting for the second time only and considering it was such a very small camera with limited holding capacity it was rather nigh impossible to keep it completely steady. Moreover, it was perishing cold at the time and I was thus shivering and rattling in my fleece boots.
I was so mesmerised with the amazing brightness everywhere in my surroundings. The glistening rays of the sun was literally splitting the trees and aiming directly at the tiny lens, like a magical animated stun-gun, causing temporary blindness. I do not ever remember a day like it in my entire life. I just stood there savouring the whole snowy atmosphere. It uplifted me so much and took away the melancholy I was feeling, because of being alone, on the day that was in it. I thoroughly recommend brightness as a booster to ones system, during the winter months. So utterly therapeutic. I was gobsmacked at the positive effects it was having on me.
Background noise is to be expected, given centrality of my position. Especially the noise, at the very end, which, alas, to my chagrin, had caused me to stop filming abruptly. A car was revving, due to having got stuck in the snow. Some kind passerby drivers with appropriate equipment came swiftly to the aid of driver.
Goldenbridge Industrial school inmates only ever knew a little happiness as children when they were in touch with nature during the summer months, when they went to St Joseph's Rathdrum, Holiday home, Co Wicklow, The Garden of Ireland. There were no humans in their lives to nurture, them except mother nature. So it was for me on Xmas Day 2010 upon surveying my beautiful snowy Wonder-Winter-Land Rathmines surroundings. Happy New Year [Athbhliain Faoi Mhaise Duit- as Gaeilge, Irish] to viewers who stroll by to watch this amateur Xmas Dublin film. Marie Thérèse O' Loughlin.
