I'm not so much bothered by the fact that Arabs are stereotyped as villains as much as HOW they're portrayed as villains. The villain is a essential aspect ot any story since he's basically conflict incarnate and drives the plot more than the hero.
I guess what I'm saying is, if you're gonna have a Muslim bad guy, don't portray him as another mindless savage fanatic. Portray him as a cunning, cultured, honorable Shatranj master instead. (Shatranj is the Islamic predecessor to chess)
