Ernest Tubb is one of my all-time favorite country artists. I treasure his warmth and personality into his singing. thanks for posting ..Erik Tielman, Florida
i met et and billy byrd many yrs.ago when he played a show in cape girardeau,mo.we talked a bit he was just as nice a man off stage as on.the show was over but he still greated all back stage as if they had paid him!! he was a good man to talk to!!!
I met him in 1975. Had been a fan for years, and had 17 of his LP's with me. It was at the Palomino Club in No. Hollywood, CA. In between sets, I went out to the ET bus. I asked the man who answered the door if I could have my LP's autographed by ET. The man said, "just a minute," and shut the door. A few moments later ET HIMSELF opened the door with this greeting..."Howdy, come on in!" He signed all 17 albums and we had a real conversation, not just chit chat! THAT was Ernest Tubb!
I think I first heard ET in the late 30s or early 40s. The music he recorded in the 30s,40s, and early 50s can't be beat. I have a lot of his old 78sand several CDs containing re-releases of his recording made during that period. My favorite ET recording would be hard choose, but I especially like his early recording of " I Wonder Why You Said Goodby". I have the 78, but I played it so much back that it is full of crackels and pops. I've looked for a re-release but havn't found one.
No entertainer today has the showmanship and honesty like Ernest had...
