In this video, Betty demonstrates how to make a delicious dessert called "Cherry Crunch." It is very quick and easy to make, and it is scrumptious!

Ingredients:

1 can (20 oz.) cherry pie filling (we use the kind with no sugar added.)
1 box white cake mix
1 stick of margarine or butter (room temperature)
1 cup of chopped pecans (or pecan pieces)

Pour the can of cherry pie filling into a deep dish baking dish. (You may use an oblong Pyrex dish.) In a large mixing bowl, combine the white cake mix with the margarine using a pastry blender (or fork). When the mixture is roughly the consistency of cornmeal, add the 1 cup of pecans and mix together. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the pie filling in the deep dish. Place in a 350 degree oven for about 20 minutes. Increase or decrease the cooking time, so that it is browned to your liking. Enjoy!

  • Hi, Betty. I was wondering if I don't have to put any kind of nuts in this recipe or will it just effect the taste or something? Oh and one more thing, can I use a potato smasher instead of a fork or that pastry cutter?

  • @jazzycandycane You may omit the pecans; I make it that way sometimes, and it's great! Yes, you may use a potato masher or fork to crumble the topping.

  • Hi betty this is vince and I have been watching your videos since then. I love baking that is why. I would just like to ask how many grams are there in a box of flour in this recipe.. tnx so much. I hope I could receive your reply before this xmas. Tnx so much!

  • @angelovince8 There are 2 1/2 cups in a box of cake mix like I used. Each cup is 125 grams.

  • I like listening to your voice =) and that looked really good at the end! =D but can you also add something to the cake/butter mix to make it a TINY bit more sticky? so it won't fall apart when you try and take a piece of it =P.

Looks real good though! I really wish I had some cake at the moment.... dang haha

  • @tanya9nithreus I like it crumbly, but it you want the topping to be like cake, just mix up the ingredients on the cake mix and pour that over the top of the cherry pie filling and bake it in the oven according to the cake mix directions!

  • ohhh curly hair betty :D love it. this is probably one of your older videos that 's why :)

  • If u wanna get ya hands dirty, instead of using a pastry cutter u could use the rubbing in method by gently rubbing the mixture between your finger tips. Would be fun for kids :o)

  • Oh and it also goes nice with rhubarb, apple and cinnamon, plum, gooseberry, any fruits that will stew well. For a little extra crunch on the top u can sprinkle some Demerara sugar on the top before baking.

  • If u wanna make the crumble topping from scratch instead of using a cake mix.

    175g/6oz Flour

    75g/3oz Butter or margarine

    75g/3oz Sugar

Any chopped nuts to give it extra texture or flavour 2oz. Looks nice though Betty, I am a pastry chef if u ever wanna few ideas or anything. :o)

  • I've had this also with cherries, peaches and pineapple all together .Its wonderful too.
