I find the story too schematic. You feel quite from the start that De Lillo is out to prove a point, which reduces its effect considerably. About the writing style, it reminds me of a poem written in trochees. A dramatic change from the fluent style of "Underworld".
Characters like Eric Packer, perhaps, do not elicit sympathy, but rather a kind of tragic pathos. I read the book on an airplane, and it was a superb setting for a wonderful novel. I wonder how the current crisis will change the way we look at
