I went to see the Progressive Nation Tour 2009 at Hovet in Stockholm, Sweden. It's thanks to Opeth that I went there, but Dream Theater is a massive experience, even though their setlist wasn't very good in my opinion (too many half-ballads in 4/4, too few progressive songs with solos and stuff). Since Dream Theater has some of the best musicians in the world, the solos and progressive stuff is what you want to hear. Something cool was the screens showing the musicians up close, I haven't been to a concert with that before. Fortunately there was a lot of empty chairs at the bottom row, so we went down there to get the best view possible.

During "The Dance of Eternity", Dream Theater's PA failed, and the drummer Mike Portnoy had to entertain the audience with several drum solos. When they managed to fix it, it happened again... several times! This was probably the most memorable thing from this concert, and I'm very lucky to have it recorded. I originally just recorded the song because it sounded cool, like the "real" Dream Theater - progressive. Something that's cool is that Portnoy says that the riff causing the PA failure was a Meshuggah-riff! So that's why he says it's from "your homeland", Sweden. I couldn't recognize the riff, even though I'm a huge Meshuggah-fan. If anyone does, please reply. Edit: the "Meshuggah-riff" is created by Dream Theater but inspired by Meshuggah, hence their name of the riff. And yeah, I'm the one screaming "Meshuggah!" and "Bleed!" ;)

I have recorded this using a Pentax Optio M30 and edited it using Magix Music Maker 10 Deluxe. Youtube. I'm sorry about the crackling noise appearing sometimes, that's the reason why I record the audio to my covers using an mp3-player. It's the camera's reaction to high volumes I believe. Oh, and the reason why some seconds are skipped is because I didn't think it was going to happen again, and the second time, because I had to change memory card.

Thanks for checking it out!

Thumbs up at 7:15!

  • "Completely fucked it up"? They had powerfailures, what are they supposed to do about it?

  • I am a huge dream theater fan but i have to admit that they completely FUCKED it!!!!!!

  • @FiendMachine04 about "narrow-minded idiot" came out wrong because that was the third post I made, the former two disappeared, so it's out of context.

  • @FiendMachine04 I'm not a fan of death core and all that, but a lot of those bands cite Meshuggah as their biggest influence. Could you refer to an interview or something where someone from Meshuggah talks shit about another band btw? Polymeters is their trademark and they have a lot of variation. There's a pretty big difference between "Destroy Erase Improve" and "Nothing". How do you define an idea like that? In that case, you could say bands who use 4/4 always do the same thing... That post

  • @SwedishBerzerker polyrythms DID NOT revolutionize metal either. i can understand a cd where introduce some new strumming patterns but 9 or 10 cds of that is pathetic. your probably bigger than me just like that other guy is a narrowminded idiot

  • @FiendMachine04 I don't listen to Meshuggah because they're complex, that's just stupid. I listen to them because I like their rhythms. And I wouldn't say "little kid" because I'm probably a lot bigger than you.

  • @FiendMachine04 Meh, who the fuck cares? I'm in it for the music. Spider chords didn't revolutionize metal in any way, it's just a way of playing a series of power chords, nothing more. I listen to some Necrophagist sometimes, and yeah, it's hard to play. But it's not like I haven't done minor and diminished arpeggios before. I've developed a lot and while I've only been covering Megadeth, I play some Malmsteen.

  • @SwedishBerzerker not only does your band talk shit about other bands they cant keep their story straight. ive looked at a couple of their interviews and the interviewer caught them lying. oh and dave mustaine brought spider chords to metal but you dont see him writing ten albums using just spider chords. when you say meshuggah is complex that makes you look like you dont know how to strum for shit. id love to see you TRY and play any necrophagist song. your arm would explode little kid

  • @FiendMachine04 Uh, no - Haake's biggest idol was Neil Peart and Thordendal listens to a lot of fusion. He even made an album with a fusion drummer. The reason I've only covered Megadeth so far is because I want to cover all the songs I want to first. I've done some Malmsteen and Opeth too. Good riddance.

  • @SwedishBerzerker i also unsubscribed to you because of your narrow mindedness. you play megadeth good but thats all you got
