The amazingly detailed true story of "The Doolittle Raid" based on the novel of the same name. Stunned by Pearl Harbor and a string of defeats, America needed a victory - badly. To that end, Colonel Jimmy Dolittle, a former air racer and stunt pilot, devises a plan for a daring raid on the heart of Japan itself. To do this, he must train army bomber pilots to do something no one ever dreamed possible - launch 16 fully load bombers from an aircraft carrier! Remarkable in its accuracy, this movie even uses film footage from the actual raid.

  • This vid is a favorite on Cairo

  • @rebeccaruiz70 What?????

  • Has anyone noticed that at one point in the movie, 2:02 here, the sailor's uttering the word "hell" is bleeped out? I've heard that for the movie 'Gone With the Wind', the studio that made it had to pay some kind of "profanity fine", so that Clark Gable's character could say the word "damn".

Thanks, LockAndLoadp, for posting this outstanding movie!

  • @barnstormer4 No problem . I hadn't noticed that . I always thought he said "Give them one for the Army " .

  • I meet this elderly gentleman at my local hospital in Bucks England .I noticed badges on his jacket and cap, intrigued I wandered over to him and noticed a stalag luft 3 veteran badge I politely asked him if he was there he replied that he had been and was also the navigator on plane no 9 of the Doolittle raid his name Tom Griffin very nice chap and made my day to meet him .

  • My God...this is only 4 months after Pearl Harbor was attacked. Can you imagine the rush of satisfaction and anxiety that these heros must have felt when they went "feet dry" over enemy territory? Thousands of miles from home!

    Even before Midway!

I would love to have a tape of their comments and thoughts during the actual raid.

  • The scenes in the beginning of this video showing the B-25 and the actors on "Hornets" deck, were actually filmed indoors on a soundstage with some real B-25's.

The launching scenes are a mix of special effects using models and shots from the real raiders taking off.

  • @butch356

Amen...These actors were pretty big back then...They WERE the stars of their time.

  • If anyone ever watched star trek,

    The gunner is "CHARLIE"

    Aahh what irony....

  • I want this video on my Xperia active unit.

  • how dare they list the pearl harbor doolittle raid as a recommended video. That movie sucked

  • I actually located the plane used in this film. Serial # 40-2347. A B-25B that was delivered directly from the factory to MGM. It's stored in Chino California, it's in bad shape but in possession of an aircraft restoration company-Aero Trader. . Purchased from MGM in 1966 and it's been baking in the desert ever since. .Google that serial number and some info will be returned.

  • Exciting images. Best scenes I've scene of a WW2 movie. My uncle served on the second Hornet that was built to replace the first. It was amazing how fast we built up our Navy and air power and land materiel after the decimation at Pearl Harbor and the dismantling of our military after WW1.

  • Love those engines!!!
