At once a political thriller and human drama, THE LIVES OF OTHERS begins in East Berlin in 1984, five years before Glasnost and the fall of the Berlin Wall and ultimately takes us to 1991, in what is now the reunited Germany. THE LIVES OF OTHERS traces the gradual disillusionment of Captain Gerd Wiesler (Ulrich Muhe, best known for his lead roles in Michael Haneke's FUNNY GAMES and as Dr. Mengele in Costa-Gavras' AMEN), a highly skilled officer who works for the Stasi, East Germany's all-powerful secret police. His mission is to spy on a celebrated writer and actress couple, Georg Dreyman (Sebastian Koch) and Christa-Maria Sieland (Martina Gedeck).

There certainly IS justification for violence/war, mainly to end violence/war on terms of freedom and human dignity, enforced by a big bad superpower against insane ideologies such as Marxism and National Socialism that Germany vomits out from time to time.

America has arrived at this level of destruction of human dignity. Now with the advent of automated analysis operated at the hands of mere mortals, we are all under the microscope and the stage is set for precisely targeted state intimidation and repression based on ones convictions, beliefs and opinions. Of course for some "liberals" this is merely a signpost on the way to their envisioned state-force Utopia on one state-imposed viewpoint on every topic.

HAHAHAHAHA after watching this movie I felt so good that the America haters watching this film fell flat on their naive faces. the horrors that these East Europeans have faced since the creation of the USSR are astounding. From Lenin's population eliminations to Stalins Ukrainian solution to the establishment of the police state throughout the Soviet bloc, it has been a rough ride. So when you're done crying about the bad economy, just give some of this a thought.

The film is spoken entirely in German. There is never justification for violence/ war. The U.S.A. has terrorism happening like most other areas on earth for such a long time in history. The world no longer backs down from the, big bad super power.
