1917 Traub one off motorcycle found inside a brick wall in the 60's. Bud Ekins (Steve McQueens's stunt guy) used to own it. Now it is a Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, NC. No one knows who built it.
the bike is in a museum in maggie valley nc. i forget the guys name that owns the place but he is a killer nice guy. they do charge to go in, but they have let me in a time or 2 for free (wouldnt count on that) but the cost was nothing as i recall. he's got ww'2 era shaft driven HD's old indians......almost everything there still runs. i went with my dad.. we got in there and the place was empty and the owner took us around and gave us a question and answer tour of the place. super cool.
There was actually a family with the last name Traub who lived in Chicago for about a hundred years. So maybe the family has something to do with the building of this?
Etrich Taube made a number of these air craft prior to the war, the first sieries of them, the single, and the wicker bodied ones ran the three cylinder French build engine, the war modle had an inline. So when researching you will need to study his early pionier era attempts.
or from an old Ruep, French german same era as the Taulb air craft, The taub was the plain with the dove looking wings, use just before the war, based as said on the french chanel crosser.
Also would explain hiding it in a wall, Every one was pretty pissed at Gremany, could have been the fellow that hid it feared a stigma as a hunn lover.
Awesome. Was it in that condition when it was found, or has it been restored?
