looks like a small whaler shark. In my experience they will approach a spearfisherman closer than a hammerhead. I have speared ones around this size (1 metre or so) with a single point spear, they are quite good eating too.

Where was this shot? That kinda looks like a small bull shark. I carry a powerhead with me just for this reason. You don't want sharks associating divers with easy meals. You did the right thing though, not being properly armed. Invest $150 in a powerhead and bust his ass next time... it's perfectly legal.

neva let a shark take your fish - it makes it real clear that he is the dominant one in the water....you gotta be the bully - but also within reason, you not gonna go bullying a 3.5m tiger shark now are you, but the reef's you can intimmedate

I wasn't really worried about the fish, I just got the camera and wanted to get some footage to take home. Next time i will let the shark take the fish with me holding it between my teeth ;)
