@TheACman42- I know. It sucks. And Sugarland used to be one of the greatest places to get fast trains and lots of horn, since after all, track speed is 55 to 60, with Amtrak at 79.

@UPRR11 One thing about Sugarland area that sucks is because of the gayside horns all caused by the idiots who bitched about train horns. Now everytime, I cant find the best nonquiet zones to watch trains.:(

Quiet zones are a great idea in residential areas.
There are rules in place that allow crews to whistle through quiet zones. At that particular crossing, there are flashing indicators aimed down each main line. Depending on what they display, the crew may have to whistle the crossing. They also have to whistle if there are workmen present, or for any situation in which the crew feels the use of the horn would be prudent.

Sweet!! We have a couple wayside horns on the UP Glidden Sub just outside Houston in Sugarland, and those things sound like crap! When the BNSF sounded his horn, the horrible sound of those wayside horns was drowned out, and the great sounds of a good-ole airhorn returned!!

Quiet zones for trains? Seriously? How about don't pick a house near the damn tracks you fools.

The Engineer was trying to make the situation a safe one. We hae "safe" zones, here in Middletown, Ohio. But the Engineers refuse to abide. Because it's on the side of safety. I love to hear the blasts, myself! I wish I lived directly next to a rail line! I'd sleep like a baby! Please, let me reiterate! I meant quiet zones, not safety zones

because he wanted to. Wtf is with that gay electronic horn?
BlowoutBob 1 year ago
@BlowoutBob basically, enough people that lived near the tracks bitched about the trains being too loud so they put in a few quiet zones. The other one(s) don't have the electronic horn even. Bunch of bullshit as far as I'm concerned.
