A good point but people call music like that of Foals 'Indie' because terms like rock, punk and dance doesn't really do it justice; those categories would put them alongside Queen, the Sex Pistols and David Guetta. It's something else entirely in sound and 'Indie' is how people categorize the more outlandish and unique artists. Though 'Alternative' is probably a better term really.

I always hate when people say indie is a genre. You can say something is indie if it is, indie is independent, independent music is just usually "different" from the mainstream usual. INDIE MEANS YOU ARE NOT SIGNED TO A MAINSTREAM COMPANY! Its a band that is just signed to an independent record company. There.
