  • Honestly this is an utter joke. He says he wants the people to be trained but vast majority of firefighters are not actualy ems just first aid which is common sense really. Furthermore bls and ALS (medics) are treated like shit when the majority of the company is fire related. Im not saying all places just most. A jack of all trades is a master of none.

  • this is very reason I believe fire base ems ireland dublin

  • The reason to have fire respond to medicals (especially in rural areas) is because the ambulance may have a long response time due to being in a town or city. Fire dpts are located and staffed (or volunteer) in the immediate area and normally arrive on scene much faster.

  • I found this video very disturbing, Not only did it play fast and loose with the facts, but it misrepresented the level of training that paramedics recieve,. As an ACP in Canada, I went to school for 3 full years, on my own dime, to get certified. This is a far cry from the BLS training firefighters get in my community- incidentally, it is the same training that lifeguards get.,

I have 2 fire extinguishers in my ambulance, but I sure dont pretend to be capable of fighting fires.

  • Cardiac arrest survival rates are higher in fire based EMS systems? Like New York City, Washington D.C., or Chicago all have fire based EMS AND the lowest cardiac arrest survival rates in the nation! I know seattle (fire based) has one of the best survival rates but what about areas like Kansas City (which has a PUM system), the cardiac arrest survival rate has risen in the past 3 years to to #1 or #2 in the nation (depending on which study) Not bad for a non fire based system.

  • While it is true that fire depts provide good care and are great assisting the paramedics. Fire based EMS is no better than any other EMS organization. This video ignores the fact that EMS is treated like a read headed step child by the fire dept., and most fire fighters HATE going to medical calls. Some fire depts offer excellent pt. care and others have "taken over" an EMS system and successfully increased response times, decreased pt. care and treated medics like crap in the process!!

  • It costs a lot of money to staff an ambulance, and well the tax dollars simply are not there. Fire responds with the ambulance because most fire fighters are trained as EMT's and offer crucial help to the medics, especially on cardiac arrests, traumas, or any other critical patient. If your loved one was in cardiac arrest would you really want only 2 people trying to do CPR, Intubate, start IV's, push meds move the pt. etc...? Plus one of them has to drive to the ER.

  • Why not just staff more ambulances? Why are fire trucks going on EMS calls? Can you transport with a fire truck?
