It is an abomination and there is no justrification for it!.
I am closest to being a budist than anything else and I find all violence deplorable.
No matter to what level, beating someone puts out a clear message that they are not your equal and that kind of thinking has no place in a modern secular civilized society!.

Bro, it isn't even violence. The hadiths clearly say that this "beating" is only tapping; it CANNOT leave a mark, and it CANNOT bring about pain, or else you are sinning. So the term "beating" is used w/ qualification - it isn't the way we mean it in english (to inflict pain on someone else). A man is in sin if he doesn't make his wife happy. Besides, the sura talks about all of the rights the woman has before mentioning "beating." Salaam.

Well the verse clearly shows that violence IS the last resort. Second, if the woman is right, then he has absolutely no right to beat her. You may argue that he might do so nevertheless, well, then the same applies to the woman, it would be defying the religious text

So are you going to answer the question? According to your previous statement, the British should NOT have used violence. Is that what you intended? If not, you'll need to revise your objection to violence in general.
