April 14, 2010 - Senate Finance Committee Senator Robert Menendez comes to the defense of the long-term unemployed in the United States from the assertion made by Doug Holmes that providing additional weeks of benefits for the unemployed gives them no incentive to look for work by injecting common sense into the conversation. Sen. Menendez points out the jobs are simply not there with five unemployed Americans on average are competing for one job. He also continues to probe others for additional ways to help the unemployed talking to members of the panel. Senator Menendez was the only Senator on the committee to challenge the written testimony of Doug Holmes on this issue during this hearing.
