Originally presented at the Houston Maritime Museum on September 13, 2012.

Building on a fascination he developed as a child, Burt Reckles has been creating miniature art pieces for over 65 years. Many of his creations are displayed in museums in Asia, Europe, and the United States, including the Smithsonian and have received many competitive awards and acclamations

Burt's glass encapsulated miniatures are not limited to ships-in-bottles. He has created a wide variety of highly unique art pieces ranging from maritime dioramas including scrimshawed ivory and pocket watch encased reproductions, to whimsical, Judaic, and Holocaust art and individually commissioned pieces.

Join Burt and the Houston Maritime Museum as he discusses the history of the art of miniaturization from its origins over 400 years ago to how the art and his own pieces have progressed to today. He will also reveal our plans for the Gallery of Maritime Miniatures in our new building in 2014!
