A 1-hour talk about the energy challenges we face in the near future. The lecture is given by Richard Heinberg, author and member of the core faculty at the New College of California in Santa Rosa. The lecture reviews the history of oil discovery and production (both in the U.S. and globally), problems with supply forecasts, key locations of remaining oil, the current course of U.S. policy, energy alternatives, and the importance of demand-side solutions.

  • Richard Heinberg did not get around to talking about community. I've heard it said by a researcher in intentional communities that the most important factor in the survival of such ventures (eco-villages, transition towns, etc.) is the cooperation of its members. Diana Leafe Christian would be able to expound at length on such matters.

  • Personally I think it is too late for any solutions, those who are aware of the dire situation humanity is facing should figure out a personal strategy for themselves to retreat anywhere where they think they can survive the coming years ... keep the security of yourself and your loved ones in mind, violence and looting will be everywhere when the system breaks down. good luck

  • This video is prophetic

  • dismantleling the bond between goverment and coporation polluters. it will take the wealth and consciousness of those in power to fight against the corporate giants. the lif of the planet depends on it. the battle is to break the goverment regime and create new laws that will protect the planet. then we can create and use new tech to clean up and live and coexist as a partner with nature once again as we have up until the destruction of the industrial revolution depended upon polution and oil.
