Sometimes I feel that the electronic train is also quite intolerable noize from fans above the locomotive. I lived in dormitory which was jingguang line.:( Somehow the train cannot prevent from the loud sound I gurss.
I'm a train driver in Belgium, and one of the types I'm authorised to drive is the Belgian type 20, the loudest electric loco I know...
A sample: Youtube "YJYOfboaofk" (Not my video)
First a French "Sybic" enters, but then a Belgian type 20 takes over! Just compare the sound levels! We get ear plugs from the railway company, because the sound levels in the drivers cabs can exceed the 85 dB! (One engine once produced 92 dB in the cab!)
Yes indeed, the only thing that is still the same is that the engines are still very noisy... Villagers who were hoping to have quiet nights after the QJ's were gone didn't really get what they hoped for... :-D No hammering QJ's anymore (Unfortunately...), but loud diesels with an amazing thundering sound, filling the whole valley with it while passing!

One question out of my curiosity: Is the Urumqi line double-tracked?

The line from Lanzhou to Wulumuqi (Urumqi) is indeed double track... :-) (Clearly visible on Google Earth by the way... ;-) )
But the Jitong line (Where this video is shot) is nowhere near Wulumuqi. (About 2000 kilometer from Wulumuqi.)

55 wagons. At speeds a lot faster than the QJ's were capable
